AMICO
A Not for Profit Community Based Organization
Founded in 1978 to Serve the Needs of the Community

The American-Italian Coalition of Organizations, Inc. (AMICO) was formed in 1978 by a group of Italian-American civic leaders with a goal of advancing the interest of the city's two million residents of Italian descent. In the spring of 1979, AMICO was incorporated as a not-for-profit corporation and it was successful, that year, in obtaining city funded contracts to operate its day care program in Carroll Gardens and a senior citizens program in Bensonhurst/Borough Park.
The AMICO Court Street Day Care Center serves 60 pre-school and 30 school-age children. The AMICO 59th Street Senior Center provides a full range of nutritional, educational, social and recreational services for approximately 400 older persons each day.
In 1982, AMICO applied for and received a contract to provide case assistance and information services in the Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill, Red Hook, Gowanus, Sunset Park, Windsor Terrace, Bensonhurst, Bath Beach, Borough Park, Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, Fort Hamilton, Gravesend, Brighton Beach and Coney Island sections of Brooklyn.
In addition to these programs, AMICO provides emergency and supplemental food and clothing provisions.  The AMICO CFB2 Program provides social services, and telephone reassurance to residents of Community Board 11 and the St. Finbar Golden Age Club.  This program is frequently used as a referral for the AMICO Extended Services Program.
AMICO is a non-sectarian organization which provides services free of charge to residents of New York City without regard to national origin, citizenship status, economic status, race, creed, religion, gender, sexual orientation or marital status.
